language translations be managed through and easy web-based interface? Is

for design and layout control? Does the system have built in web site
statistics reporting for things such as pages/content items viewed, number
of users per time period, etc? Is there a trash system to allow
administrators or publishers to recover content that has been removed from
the site? Note that this is not the same as recovering items from a
versioning archive. Does the system have a mechanism to transport styles,
templates, etc between sites so that you can create a theme on one site and
then reuse it on many others? Does the system allow for sub-sites within a
site that are self-contained with their own navigation and content
hierarchy? Can content and applications be packaged so that tedious
repeditive publishing functions can be easily deployed time and time again
without the repetition? Can the system be completely managed through a web
browser? (The alternative is that there is some sort of offline client
software that must be used to manage at least some components.) Is content
edited directly in the page that it will be placed? (The alternative is that
there is a wholly separate interface for managing content.) Can content be
created on one server and easily "pushed" to another server?Does the system
allow for content to be automatically added or removed from a site based
upon date? Is there a clipboard system that allows publishers to easily cut
and paste content from one area of the site to another? Is there a central
repository for uploading images and other files so they can be reused
through-out the site? Does the CMS have a banner or other management system?
Is the system capable of rewriting URL or working with some other URL
rewriting mechanism to provide shorter or friendlier URLs? Is the system
capable of hosting multiple sites from one software deployment? This means
you can install the software once and host as many sites as you want. It
also means that when it comes time to upgrade you only need to upgrade the
software in one place, not for each seperate site. Does the system support a
multi-lingual version of each content object without republishing the
content object. For example, if you create an FAQ in English, then all that
needs to be done to display the FAQ in Spanish or another language is to
translate the content, not create another page with another FAQ content
object. Then depending upon user preferences it either shows one version or
the other. Does the system support the creation of sites with multiple
languages? Does the system support the adding of arbitrary metadata
properties to all the content objects? The metadata is typically then used
for profiling, indexing, or even auxillary display functions. Is the system
localized/internationalized so it can be translated into other languages and
take locale preferences like date/time preferences into account? Does the
system provide a user profiling that can be extended with new profile
properties through an administrative interface? Does the system allow
content to be mirrored (not copied, but reused) from one location to another
on a site? Can the system run in CGI mode for development purposes or on
low-end systems? Does the system allow a user to upload a zip (or other
compressed file) full of static content, which is then published to the
site? This sort of feature is used to do web-based mass uploads of static
content. Is there a web-based rich text editor to allow publishers to create
formatted content without knowing HTML, CSS, XML, or XSL? Does the system

Advertising Research your Keywords
Ask yourself what keywords you think someone might type in when searching
for products you sell or services you provide. Though a keyword may be only
one word it is usually a phrase made up of keywords. Phrases are more
specific and will more than likely be what potential customers use when
searching for products or services online.
After a quick brainstorming session write down all that you were able to
come up with. Make sure to consider geographical phrases if they are
important to your customers and don't forget of alternative words that could
be used. Make sure to surf the websites of your competition to get more
ideas until you can come up with a list in the neighborhood of 20 to 30.
Now you should take two keywords from your list that you feel potential
customers will use most frequently. Take into consideration that popular
keywords are also competitive keywords and harder to achieve higher ranking
with. If your goal is to obtain a high ranking for the term “auto
insurance”, the path to achieving it may be long. Try to make your keywords
the ones that are most related to your business and not riddled with
vagueness or extremely competitive. Make each phrase about two or three
words in length like the previous example.
Now that we have your keywords we will move on to the next step.
Site Text
Your site text is made up of the wording that is on your web page. There is
a phrase for search engines and it is content is king. Search engines love
unique content and your keywords should be placed in key locations within
the content so Google understands the relevance your site has to them. Also
make sure that your copy reads well around them as it needs to make sense
for your visitors who are most important.
Keywords can be placed in headings, at the top of pages, in bold or italics,
used as link text for other pages of your site and in your title tag.
Add additional content after you are finished tuning up your webpage. Give
more detailed descriptions of the products and services you offer. Provide a
frequently asked questions page and pages of articles that pertain to your
products or services.
With your design you should keep in mind that search engines cannot read
images nearly as well as text. Sites that are made up with excessive flash
or pictures really impede how well they can read the content of your site.
Link Building
A common way of thinking about links is that every link from another site
that leads to yours is a vote for the popularity of your site. Every quality
link you receive can improve your search rankings.
The quality of your inbound links is more vital than the quantity. The
preferred and more valuable link is from sites that are relevant to your
niche and with authority (highly regarded in the niche). A quality directory
with relevant categories is another example. Just a few quality links with
authority can have more value for your site than hundreds of lesser quality.
Think of it like you do your personal business network. Both can have a
strong effect on the success or failure of your business.
Take time to consider all the other relevant websites in your niche such as
organizations, industry affiliates and non-competing companies. Send them a
email introducing yourself, your products and services and explain how your
website could benefit their visitors. Then politely suggest that they create
a link to your website from theirs.
Record the Results
Over time you should watch and record your search engine rankings by doing a
Google search for your chosen keywords to see where you rank. You can also
monitor where your visitors are coming from by watching your hosting
reports. Do this for each significant page of your website.
Continue to add to your websites content and increase the links to your
website over time. This needs to be an ongoing effort for as long as you
want visitors to your website.
As you continue to record the results of your efforts you should see the
traffic increase and with that your sales. Know where your visitors are
coming from so you can continually monitor your marketing efforts successes.
Only by measuring it do you know where and how to improve it.

leading delivery methods. The Solution Delivery Center is dedicated to
predictable, repeatable, effective and consistent delivery of IT solutions.
The primary focus of the Quality Center of Excellence is ensuring all
processes within the SDC are well-defined, quantitatively managed, and
undergoing continuous improvement. The Senior Metrics Process Analyst is a
Subject Matter Expert, responsible for driving metrics for the SDC. This
role collects data and produces monthly reports to document the results of
SDC performance based on accepted standards and metrics. The position is
responsible for producing a Balanced Scorecard for the SDC as well as
reporting quality metrics for Business Transformation.
METRICS:
Act as the metrics owner within the SDC Quality CoE. Create SDC Balanced
Scorecard and SDC metrics for Business Transformation(BT)Gold Book (pull
data from relevant sources including Quality Center and MS Project Server).
Report Quality Assurance Metrics also for the BT Gold Book. Review data and
analyze trending to ensure no obvious issues. Work with various SDC CoE
Managers to explain any variances. Add to or modify existing SDC metrics and
targets based on SDC changes, tool changes, and new PG&E requirements. Act
as the SDC metrics go-to person.
Ensure that the SDC continuously improves work processes and tools to reach
its vision to be a utility-leading software development team. Identify and
implement continuous improvement initiatives. Identify errors, conduct root
cause analysis, implement cost effective solutions and ensure ongoing
compliance through quality assurance. Provide support in implementing CMMI
level 3 and 4 processes.
